Whereas the first Big Bang had been launched during the F1 Grand Prix in Sao Paulo in 2007, today Hublot and the Instituto Ayrton Senna chose to unveil another side of Ayrton's life never previously seen. The doors are open to an exhibition of photographs of Ayrton taken in his private and public life, by a close friend of his, the Japanese photographer Norio Koike. This photographer, now 50 years old, met Ayrton Senna in 1988, and very quickly won his trust. A relationship of friendship and complicity enabled him to take photos of the champion at different times, and often at just the right moment! A sincerity and genuine intimacy radiate from these pictures which, until today, had remained unpublished. After Ayrton Senna's death, Norio Koike bequeathed the photos to the Instituto Ayrton Senna. Today, we have been given the opportunity to discover them and to pay tribute to his work. We support together the important work of the Institute, which helps millions of children in Brazil.

The Instituto Ayrton Senna, a non-profit organisation, was founded to honour Senna's ideals: his dream was to bring more dignity and equity to his country. It is dedicated to the education of children, at school as well as in society, to enable them to develop their capacities to the full.

Since its foundation, 14 years ago, by Viviane Senna, 9.4 million children have benefited from its programs in 25 Brazilian states. Over 85 million US dollars have been invested to enable it to pursue its educational objectives.

The Hublot Big Bang Foudroyante Senna replica watch, a 500-piece numbered limited series, sports the colours of Brazil, like the first edition: yellow and green split-seconds hand, yellow minute markers, Brazilian flag on the case-side element, Ayrton Senna's signature in green on a matt black dial.

Introducing The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium Replica Watch

Last year, Omega took a deep breath and plunged into one of its most iconic collections, the Seamaster Diver 300M – a 25-year-old icon, worn by none other than 007 himself (hence its nickname, the “James Bond Watch“) positioned as the entry-level watch to Omega’s divers. The 2018 model was an instant hit, which offered great value for the money and superb mechanics/construction. As a preview of the 2019 collection, Omega introduces a stealth version in black ceramic and titanium – but be sure to read the rest of the article, as it has more than just new materials to show.

This new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium appears, at first, just a new combination of materials – both dear to the brand, which has been playing with ceramic a lot these past few years (think Speedy DSOTM or Seamaster PO Deep Black). Thus, indeed, the new SM300 is bringing a new dark style and some materials that we haven’t seen before on this model. This would have been nice but Omega thought it could tweak this model for the occasion with updates on the proportions and on the display.

First things first, the new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium replica watch combines a central case in black ceramic and a black rubber strap – with the same design as the “standard” steel models, meaning with two central brushed surfaces. In order to contrast with this dark material, Omega chose to have the bezel, the crown, the helium escape valve as well as the caseback made of brushed titanium. Pretty nice choice, which brings a true tool style to this watch. Other than that, the specifications are equal, with a 300m wnullater-resistance and the typical NAIAD lock caseback with sapphire crystal.

However, looking closely at the specifications, this new Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium changes in size. Instead of the 42mm diameter of the steel models, this ceramic version has grown and is now 43.5mm in diameter – again with the idea to make it more of a tool than a lifestyle accessory. No word on the thickness yet, but expect at least 14mm.

The dial of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium might take the same overall design as all the other models in the collection, it is however different. Instead of “grooves” that are laser engraved on the dial, this version has a brushed ceramic dial with “positive relief” wave pattern, meaning that the waves are raised from the surface (and not recessed).

Watch movement

Looking through the caseback and you’ll see the automatic calibre 8806. This movement, designed and manufactured in-house by Omega, features all the innovations of the brand: Master Chronometer certification, co-axial escapement, 55h power reserve and nice Arabesque decoration. However, as said, this watch features the 8806, when the steel model features the 8800.

The last – and certainly best – update concerns the display. By changing the movement, Omega also removes something on this Seamaster Diver 300M Ceramic-and-Titanium. It is indeed a no-date watch, something that will definitely please some collectors – just like the Tantalum/Titanium/Sedna Gold edition introduced in 2018.
